Androscoggin County, Maine: Our Home – Why Filling County Government Positions Matters

Welcome to Androscoggin County Nestled in western Maine, Androscoggin County is the heart of the Lewiston-Auburn metropolitan area—a vibrant community of hardworking families, small businesses, and timeless Maine values. Home to Lewiston (the largest city) and Auburn (the county seat), the county features the scenic Androscoggin River, rolling hills, lakes, and outdoor recreation that make it a special place to live and raise a family.

Key Facts (2025–2026 Estimates)

  • Population: Approximately 115,000–117,000 residents (5th largest county in Maine).

  • Major Communities: Lewiston, Auburn, Lisbon, Sabattus, Turner, and surrounding towns.

  • Economy & Community: Rooted in manufacturing heritage, healthcare, education, and local entrepreneurship. Residents value hard work, independence, family, and community resilience—principles that thrive with strong Republican leadership in county government.

  • Government Structure: Governed by the Androscoggin County Charter (approved by voters), with an elected Board of County Commissioners (7 districts for fair representation) overseeing operations. The County Administrator handles day-to-day administration, supporting departments like Registry of Deeds, Probate, Emergency Management, Facilities, IT, Sheriff's Office/Jail, and District Attorney support.

Androscoggin County is where neighbors support each other, opportunities are built through effort, and traditional Maine values endure. But these strengths depend on engaged Republican leadership in county government.

The Critical Importance of Filling County Government Positions Androscoggin County government manages essential services: the county budget, jail operations, emergency management, property records, probate matters (estates, guardianships, adoptions), law enforcement support, and more. These roles directly impact taxes, public safety, family services, and local accountability.

Key elected positions (partisan under the Charter) include:

  • County Commissioners (7 seats, district-based, 4-year terms; several expire Dec 31, 2026, including current Republicans like Neil McLean Jr. (Turner), Sally A. Christner (Turner), and Michael L. Dubois (Lewiston)).

  • Judge of Probate and Register of Probate (handle estates, name changes, etc.).

  • Sheriff (oversees county jail and law enforcement).

  • District Attorney (Third District: prosecutes crimes in Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford counties).

(Note: County Treasurer and Register of Deeds are appointed by Commissioners in Androscoggin.)

Why it matters for Republicans:

  • Filling these positions with principled Republican candidates ensures lower taxes, efficient government, strong public safety, protection of family values, and accountability—preventing overreach or wasteful spending that hurts residents.

  • Unfilled or weakly contested roles allow opponents to control critical decisions on budgets, emergency response, and justice.

  • Successful Republican recruitment and election here builds momentum for statewide and national wins, as seen in Maine's county-level grassroots efforts.

  • No prior experience is required for candidacy—just commitment to Republican values. The ACRC exists to recruit, train, support, and elect candidates who will champion Androscoggin interests.

Our Mission The Androscoggin County Republican Committee (ACRC) is dedicated to "Recruit, train, elect, and support Republican candidates who will advance the values and interests of Androscoggin County residents." This starts with strong county government leadership.
